Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study

Animated films are among the most consumed media content for children worldwide, captivating young audiences with colorful visuals, engaging stories, and memorable characters. Beyond entertainment, animated films have significant potential to influence children’s behavior, values, and social interactions. In Fika Local Government Area, Yobe State, where access to educational resources is sometimes limited, animated films serve as a medium for informal learning and behavioral modeling (Abdullahi & Ibrahim, 2023). Research has shown that animated films can shape attitudes, enhance cognitive skills, and instill moral values in children (Usman, 2024). These films, therefore, play a dual role in entertaining and educating young minds, particularly in regions with limited access to formal educational tools (Ahmed & Bello, 2024).

1.2 Statement of the Problem

While animated films are widely available and consumed by children in Fika, their influence on behavior, both positive and negative, remains insufficiently explored. Concerns have been raised about the alignment of film content with cultural values and its potential impact on social behavior and learning outcomes. This study seeks to investigate the behavioral influences of animated films on children in Fika (Mohammed, 2023).

1.3 Objectives of the Study

  1. To analyze the content of animated films popular among children in Fika.
  2. To examine the behavioral changes associated with exposure to these films.
  3. To evaluate parental perceptions of the impact of animated films on their children’s behavior.

1.4 Research Questions

  1. What types of behaviors are promoted in animated films popular among children in Fika?
  2. How do animated films influence children’s behavior in Fika?
  3. What are parents’ perceptions of the effects of animated films on their children?

1.5 Research Hypothesis

  1. Animated films significantly influence children’s behavior in Fika.
  2. Positive content in animated films fosters desirable behaviors among children.
  3. Parents’ perceptions of animated films vary based on the content and cultural alignment.

1.6 Significance of the Study

The study provides insights into the behavioral impact of animated films, guiding parents, educators, and filmmakers in curating content that promotes positive values and aligns with cultural norms.

1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study

The study focuses on the influence of animated films on children’s behavior in Fika Local Government Area, Yobe State.

1.8 Operational Definition of Terms

  • Animated Films: Movies or series created using animation techniques, typically aimed at children.
  • Children’s Behavior: Actions, attitudes, and social interactions exhibited by children.
  • Fika: A local government area in Yobe State, Nigeria.
